Our Story
One day during my morning rounds at the Hospital, I had been recently promoted as the Director of Dual Diagnosis, which meant I took care of those suffering with both mental health and substance abuse issues.
I walked into my first exam room where I met a young man named Vinnie. Vinnie was a 23 yo male, who last year despite all odds and defeated cancer, but unfortunately had became addicted to opiates and benzodiazepines.
His parents told me their story about how they could not get their son treatment for more than 2 months which contributed to him being hospitalized. Vinnie had been diagnosed with lymphoma and it was very challenging for him. He did really well but then became addicted to opiates because he could not get an appointment or care.
